KBC 16: The Rs 1 crore question that made Chander Parkash 1st crorepati of season

Chander Parkash, the UPSC aspirant from Jammu & Kashmir, became the first crorepati of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 (KBC 16). Host Amitabh Bachchan hugged the 22-year-old after he successfully answered the big Rs 1 crore question. Chander used his last lifeline before making his decision and won the amount. But, what was the question that made him win the coveted title this season?
Bachchan asked Chander a geographic question. The question read: “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name that means ‘abode of peace’? The options were: A) Somalia, B) Oman, C) Tanzania and D) Brunei.” The contestant used his last available lifeline called the ‘Double Dip’ and finally chose option C – Tanzania. That was the correct answer, and it changed Chander’s life forever.
Another interesting question that Bachchan asked him was about sports. For Rs 3.20 lakh, Chander was asked, “A ‘yokozuna’ is the highest rank attainable in which contact sport?”. The young student didn’t hesitate to answer and chose option B – Sumo Wrestling, which was the right decision.
Then came the Rs 50 lakh question. Chander was asked a mythological question: “According to the Padma Purana, with whom did Lord Krishna wage a battle over the fate of Chitrasena?” He decided to use his friend’s help and opted for the ‘Video Call A Friend’ lifeline. He used another lifeline, ‘Audience Poll’, on the same question and finally selected Option B – Arjuna, which ended up being the correct answer.
After winning Rs 1 crore, Chander attempted the giant Rs 7 crore jackpot question but didn’t take the risk of answering it without any lifeline present. The question was: “Who was the first recorded child born to English parents in North America in 1587?”. The UPSC aspirant knew the right answer, but he wasn’t sure. So, after quitting the show with Rs 1 crore, he selected Option A – Virginia Dare, and it was the right choice.
Along with Rs 1 crore, Chander also took a brand-new Hyundai, Venue SUV car.
